# Define the email server (SMTP)

> Enter the installation's SMTP server, save the password separately and test it with a test email.

  - Your email provider's SMTP server name, port, security type and sending account (user name and password, or an internal relay without authentication).

Each installation uses its own SMTP server. If there is a record on this screen, it applies; if the server field is
saved empty, email is turned off.

## Steps

1. Open the **Yönetim › Özelleştirme › Genel › E-posta Ayarları** (Administration › Customization › General › Email Settings) screen. If the badge shows **Gönderim kapalı** (Sending off), no server is defined.

2. Enter the SMTP server's name in the **Sunucu** (Server) field.

3. Select the **Bağlantı güvenliği** (Connection security); the **Port** is suggested with its usual value (STARTTLS 587, SSL/TLS 465). If your provider specifies a different port, correct it.

4. If authentication is used, enter the **Kullanıcı adı** (User name); enter the **Gönderen adresi** (Sender address) and **Gönderen adı** (Sender name), then click **Kaydet** (Save).

5. In the **Parola** (Password) panel, click **Parola gir** (Enter password), type the password and click **Parolayı kaydet** (Save password). The password is not sent with the form and never comes back to the screen.

6. In the **Deneme gönderimi** (Test send) panel, enter the recipient (if empty, your own address) and click **Deneme e-postası gönder** (Send test email).

**Result:** Email is turned on: notification emails, the daily digest, invitations and password resets, and document emails are sent from this server. Pending notification emails are sent from the Gönderim Kuyruğu (Send Queue) on the next attempt.

## What you need to know

- The test always uses the **saved** setting: the button is disabled while there are unsaved changes.
- The test does not go through the queue; the error is shown as is ("E-posta gönderilemedi: …" — Email could not be
  sent: …). The most common causes: port and security type do not match, wrong password, the provider requires an
  app password.
- To remove the password, use **Parolayı kaldır** (Remove password). If the saved password cannot be decrypted
  ("Kayıtlı SMTP parolası çözülemedi; parolayı yeniden girin." — The saved SMTP password could not be decrypted;
  re-enter the password.), enter it again.
- Notification emails that could not be sent return to the queue with **Yeniden dene** (Retry) in **Yönetim ›
  İzleme › Gönderim Kuyruğu** (Administration › Monitoring › Send Queue).
